走近一看，这些大大小小的石堆原来是艺术作品，名为"The Art of Balance"（平衡的艺术）。每个石堆上的石头都是靠自身的重力和石头间的平衡堆叠在一起，没有使用胶水或者水泥来固定。
这位就是石堆魔术师“John Felice Ceprano”， 正在雕琢他的新作品。
John Felice Ceprano从1986年起就在这里搭建他的石堆艺术品了。他也被当地人称为“Rock Man”。John是中国文化的爱好者，他说自然搭建的石堆作品体现了中国“道”家的精神：Balance（平衡）, Harmony（协调） and Peace（安宁）。每年冬天石堆被河水和冰块冲垮，又体现了“佛家”的精神：Letting go （放开）。 John说他的石堆的搭建过程，则是“太极”的体现：
A personal reference to my work is 'The Art of Balance'. I have identified my "process of moving" these large masses as a form of T'ai Chi: my body becomes a tool, a unified energy system where the entire body is one force. I literally wrap my body around the form of the rock and thus move it in one unified movement. This energy system resource, working both internally and externally is defined in physics and engineering as well as in the writings of Lao Tsu and the I Ching.

1、摆上去不久后就被人破坏得失去平衡；
2、为了保持平衡，需要为上一些铁丝网或警戒线。

skywalker 2006-09-12 评论 回应几位朋友的问题，John Felice 在这个地点创作已经有20年了。这些石头一直在这里，每年春天开始摆放这些石堆（或者叫石雕，sculpture），一件作品要花费几个小时或者几周的时间，取决于石堆所在的位置，水流的缓急，天气的状况，以及石头的形状。每一件作品都是不一样的。John Felice 说这是他和石头的对话，最终的结果是由他和石头共同完成的。到了冬天河水上涨结冰，这些石堆会被冲垮，但是石头还在这里，来年可以继续创作。如果真的有鸟把石堆弄倒了，没有关系，再建一个好了。
JohnFelice的创作属于Ecological Art （生态艺术）。这种艺术是利用自然或者回收的东西，用艺术的形式来表现人与自然的和谐，以及大自然的美丽和脆弱， 一如我们人类自己的生命。
Ecological Art is a worldwide art movement, the philosophy of which is based on ecological awareness, the harmonic coexistance of human beings and nature. It is a revitalizing movement in terms of materials used in works of art, which are in many cases, recycled and natural at the same time. Most of them emphasize the beauty of nature as a masterpiece, but one which is as fragile and vulnerable as our own life.
流水中竖立的石堆体现了《周易》的“阴阳和合”思想。石块厚重为阳，流水轻灵为阴。两者相辅相成，共同构成了石堆的最终形式。John Felice对他的石堆作品所体现的“禅”意有更详细的解释：
"The importance of the 'temporal-ness' of the work is manifold. First, the rocks being unattached and free-standing are a reflection on the non-attachment principle (each winter season the work is dismantled by nature) and at the same time they foster the idea of 'letting go and 'moving on'. Second, the rocks remain 'in situ' for the following year, for the continued exploration and development of the concepts and the craft reaffirming my personal philosophy of "go do", which works in any medium.
'Balance' and 'rapport' within each sculpture as well as with the environment around it, help to establish and enhance the presence of the "reconfigured" space in such a way that everything fits together, as naturally as possible, and the site has not been altered any more so than the rocks being used.
Each element has its own contribution to the formation of the work: each rock has its physics and determines the possibilities of its use; a static bond between energy and mass is created by the way the stones are assembled and stabilized; the river flows through each sculpture and stone creating currents of energy and sound; sky above gives infinitive depth; with every passing moment the sun's light and shadows create a different perception of the same structure; the earth is the source and the foundation".
