思科以8.3亿买下IronPort

【赛迪网讯】1月22日消息，思科以8.3亿美元的价钱买下了IronPort，轰轰烈烈地开始了它新的一年，这笔开销比这家公司年收入的八倍还要多。

　　据internetnews.com报道，思科愿意花这么一大笔钱是因为IronPort——这家电子邮箱信息工具市场最卓越的供应者即将上市。IronPort的设备被设计用于保护电子邮件的完整性，使他们免受垃圾邮件、蠕虫、病毒甚至是间谍软件的侵害。企业制度规章中对于保护电子邮件和其他电脑记录的要求条款显示了对这类装置的大量需求。

　Gartner的分析家彼得?福斯特布鲁克称思科在市场上拣到了个“美差”：IronPort在2006年以1.5亿美元的销售额给业界带来了希望。此次购买无疑是对思科标准化通讯策略的安全保驾护航，它建立了一个安全平台，其中集成有及时信息、VoIP和电子邮件。“每个人都购买防垃圾邮件的解决方案，但是如果你能使用及时信息甚至是VoIP的安全工具，思科就赢大了”，福斯特布鲁克说。

　　此外，这个交易把思科直接带入了和Symantec的竞争当中，赛门铁克自从两年前以3.7亿美元买下Brightmail就开始提供电子邮件安全系统。“这点上思科和赛门铁克竞争很激烈，”福斯特布鲁克说。“IronPort在销售方面已经占有了一席之地。他们是一个在市场份额方面飞速发展的公司。”分析家说比起赛门铁克在购买Brightmail 后所提供的设计相比，IronPort的产品更有优势。赛门铁克试图靠提供免费工具来拉拢IronPort的大企业用户，但是他们离成功还有很大一段距离，因为IronPort的品质实在是太好了。

　　有了IronPort，思科也打开了一条和微软公司的竞争之路。目前，微软公司已经大步跨进安全软件市场。这个软件巨头推出了由几个软件捆绑而成的ForeFront安全包。除了思科和微软，Nortel在合伙人的帮助下，也参与标准化通信空间的激烈竞争。但是为了最终结果，思科必须再一次证明它掌握着多条生产线和众多人才。

　　在最近几年里，思科因为拥有许多大大小小的公司客户，它变得擅长开发企业新技术。思科从众多公司中选择了IronPort，这当中包括SonicWall、Secure Computing (去年被CipherTrust收购)、Sophos、希捷、 MiraPoint、SurfControl、Tumbleweed、Marshal、Clearswift 和Proofpoint。福斯特布鲁克说他期待Proofpoint将会成为下一张被推倒的多米诺骨牌，鉴于它给予公司可靠的技术及其有价值的消费者基础。

　　对于电子邮件安全设备市场到底有多大一直有争议。Gartner坚持认为在6.4个亿美元，在2005之后每年递增40个百分点。IDC声明电子邮件安全网关工具市场会在2009年达到顶峰17亿美元。但是这些工具迅速成为部署安全应用首选的趋势是很明显的，IDC预计到2007年百分之八十的网络安全软件都将被捆绑上某一种这样的工具。
