虽然我越来越不看好PalmOS，因为它的对手Microsoft和Linux越来越强大了，而PalmOS则一直停步不前，等待了两年的OS6到现在还 见不到影。而最让人感到惊奇的是，今天PalmSource居然被日本公司Access(就是那个做NetFront浏览器软件）用3.24亿US$收购 了。比市值高几乎两倍的价格（收购价格是18.5US$/Share,PalmSource 9/8日的收盘价为10.09US$)。
         由于制造硬件的公司Palm和PalmSource是分离的，因此前段时间提到的Palm Treo 670会使用Windows Mobile V5.0的消息则应该是可靠的。因为一个优秀的硬件公司需要选择更好的软件支持平台，估计日后Palm推出的机器会考虑支持多种OS。如Windows Mobile,Linux及未来的PalmOS。这样岂不是和现在PC一样，买个机器，回来爱安装什么装什么。

     Japanese software developer Access (most Pocket PC users might know their NetFront web browser for Pocket PCs while most i-mode mobile phones also uses Access' browser technology) on Friday said it would buy handheld computer software maker PalmSource for about 324 million US$ in cash, in a deal that strengthens Access' roster of products for mobile phones.

Access said it would offer 18.50 US$ per share, an 83 percent premium to Thursday's Nasdaq closing price of PalmSource, the maker of the popular "Palm" operating system.

"The combination of Palm OS with Access' software products is expected to give Access one of the broadest lines of mobile software in the industry," the Japanese company said in a statement.

The deal appeared to receive the blessing of Palm, PalmSource's biggest customer and maker of the Treo. As you might remember, Palm and PalmSource were one company until 2003 when they split in hopes of unlocking each company's individual value.

"Palm's expertise, combined with Access' leading software development capabilities, will allow us to continue to deliver great products," Ed Colligan, Palm's chief executive officer, said in a statement. "Access is currently a software technology partner and we look forward to continuing our strong working relationship to advance the Palm OS platform."

With the acquisition, Access will also gain Linux development resources for mobile devices in the United States, France and China.

This acquisition also ends previous speculations, Palm might acquire PalmSource.
